Science Friday: Anatomy

The Science Book of the Senses, Neil Ardley

Inside the ear:
How do you hear sounds? By making a model of an ear, you will see how your ears change sounds into signals that are sent to your brain. Your brain translates these signals into the sounds you hear.

Using low tones, screams, and a whistle.

Lost sounds:
Why do you have two ears, one on each side of your head? Find out by covering one ear and trying to tell exactly where a sound is coming from.

Science Series:Soil Sampling

Last Thursday the Warrior Princesses began the Homeschool Science Series at one of the nature preserve centers. They learned about the different types of soil: Parent, Top, Sub, and Humus. Below is a picture of the Eco-Systems they brought home. Warrior Princess T, who I am pretty sure may become a Veterinarian or Zoologist put leaves in her System. When I asked, "Why?" "There is a beetle and worm in my soil, they will need food", in a matter-of-fact tone (like mother like daughter..lol). In the Eco-Systems they planted Dill, Basil, Onions, Radishes, and Lima Beans.

"My Name is Itiel, and I am a Grocery Gamer."

Yes, yes, yes, I have become a part of the money saving phenomenon called The Grocery Game.

Objective: To stockpile on what you need saving 50% or more! Play your coupons at the right time, and keep money in your pocket.

This is my first week playing The Grocery Game and already I have saved over 200%!! Is this a crime..LOL. For about a year now I read people's success stories about this game. How thy were saving $100's of $$$ within a few months and being able to shift that money over to education, other household needs, vacations, etc. To be honest, although I thought the success stories were amazing, I thought it was a big hype, I did not want to clip coupons, and I thought I could save this way on my own.

On clipping coupons:
Now I see that was a crazy thought, it only takes 20-30 mins to do that!

On saving this way on my own:
From Terri Gault on The Grocery Game (how convenient ;O) )

Why can't I just do this on my own?
Coupon pros spend hours preparing to shop. They research ads and match their coupons to sales, only to discover twice as many un-advertised sales once they get to the store. More hours are spent standing in the aisles sifting through their files for coupons to match those sales. They save a lot of money, but most of us don't have the time for this type of shopping.

Members of The Grocery Game eliminate those time-consuming hours and usually save even more than the coupon pros. For example, just because an item is on sale doesn't mean its time to play your coupon. Our databases track the sales history on nearly every item in the supermarket, waiting to use a coupon on rock-bottom sales. Now, the best possible savings are quickly accessible to busy professionals, overworked moms, single adults or anyone who wants to cut their grocery bill by 50% or even more.

The Grocery Game came to my attention again last week, so I decided to really look into it this time around. I am glad that I did! Terri Gault has the layout so organized (huge plus for me), and she really takes you step by step on how to get the maximum savings at all your favorite stores. I am in my trial period right now, 4 weeks $1. As I said up top, I am already saving in my first week, so there is a big chance that I will be continuing with The Grocery Game.

I encourage you to join The Grocery Game today! If you do, enter me as your referral, please. You will need to contact me for my email address.

I am so ready!!!!

Our home is buzzing with positive energy from the Warrior Princesses and it is contagious! They are so ready for us to jump into the Fall/Winter year of learning. During the Summer we did science experiments, a few craft projects, outdoor activities, math (30 mins a day), and reading (never stops), traveled, and just chilled out. The Fall/Winter sessions are also relaxed, but we do follow a schedule. I am looking forward to the time that we will spend together, fun, watching my girls mature more, fun, have girl hang out day, fun, see them interacting with each other, fun, seeing the joy on their faces when sitting down with daddy to share their day, fun, learning about what they are learning in their advance theatre classes, fun, listening to the new songs that will be learned in the Imagineers Band with the instrument Boomwhacker, fun, sensing their indomitable spirit while going for the Purple Belt, fun, the joy in their voices when they speak of a new friendship, fun, traveling, fun! Did I mentioned that I was looking forward to FUN!! Today we will be sitting down to go over the schedule. We will discuss the core lessons, living lessons, and business planning. Over the Summer the Warrior Princesses were inspired and came up with two business ideas. So, King T and I said, "No time like the present." Well, we have so much to look forward to. I am so ready!!!

Also over the Summer, I taught the girls Lift Every Voice and Sing (entire song). Warrior Princess Z had to research when the song was written and by whom. The song was written in 1899. So by reading books on the Civil War, also this Summer, they were able to have better understanding of the words of Lift Every Voice and Sing. We sung the song a cappella several times, but one day I heard Warrior Princess Z downstairs playing the keyboard, within half of a day do you know that girl figured out how to play the song! No kidding. So now she accompanies Warrior Princess T and myself. Gotta Love It!

I love the words from Gail @ Silvermine. I share this sentiment:

I will remind myself that I am not "doing school" at home.
We are a family. We are friends.
We happen to prefer learning stuff together.
Stuff like goodness and kindness, humor and patience,
how to dust the baseboards and banisters
how to sort through overstuffed dresser drawers,
watch television with a critical eye,
and how to make peach cobbler with local,
fresh Georgia and South Carolina peaches.
(The cobbler the kids made last week was better than tonight's.
We all love being able to judge the subtle differences! YUM!!!)

Stuff like how to find information when they need it,
how to use their time wisely,
and how to forgive themselves when a project or experiment is a flop,
they lose their temper, and say something they immediately regret.

I will remind them that there will be no grades.
There will be no diagnoses of ADHD.
There is no detention, except to observe the lizards that crawl up the screens on the house.
There is no dress code and no late bell.
They cannot be left behind.
They cannot fail.

Uzuri Designs- designer Sharonda Crome

I finally got around to purchasing a piece of jewelry (art) from Uzuri Designs. Months back I "met" jewelry designer, Sharonda Crome, on one of my networking groups and immediately fell in love with her work. Sharonda Crome has an Etsy store, filled with lots of artistic baubles.

This bracelet, Lava, was purchased for King T's birthday! It looks good on him and he really enjoys it!
