Black Frontiers

Black Frontiers-A History of African American Heroes in the Old West
Lillian Schlissel

While visiting the Hoover Dam last week, we purchased this book to add to our children's library. Black Frontiers shares the history of The Exodusters, Black Homesteaders, Mountain Men, Trappers, Guides, Cowboys, Black Indians, Nat Love, Ned Huddleston, and many more.

I love books about Black cowboys, rodeo, western America, etc. The stories in our history books make it seem like Black folks just made it past Missouri a few years ago!

What a great trip that must have been! And I bet the book is great too.

I remember that Laura Ingalls Wilder mentioned a black doctor who came to help her family when they were all sick with malaria - very interesting juxtaposition.
